Muriel performs for all ages. She works in classrooms, large assembly halls, camps, museums, parties and community events. She particularly enjoys telling for intergenerational audiences. She works with her clients to develop programs particularly suited to each venue. Her school programs align with themes students are studying and with state standards. Some programs utilize puppets and percussion instruments. Below are descriptions of some of the programs Muriel has developed. Especially for pre-schoolers: Once Upon a Time and Then Some: Simple Tales and Movement Rhymes: hear a fairy tale, join in as Muriel tells tales from Africa, Mexico, India and Eastern Europe, get those fingers and bodies moving with traditional rhymes from various cultures. Especially for children in elementary school: Sky Stories from Around the World: Myths and legends from Egyptian, Greek, Native American and Chinese skies. This program is especially effective inside Star Lab surrounded by “the stars”. Muriel incorporates percussion instruments in this performance. Cinderella Tales from Around the Globe: There are over 500 versions of this tale told by cultures around the world. Muriel tells several of them in this fast-paced program. Children are encouraged to contribute to a discussion of the “Cinderellaness” of the tales. Tales of the Natural World: Animals, plants, stories, natural phenomenon of all types have fascinated people throughout the world and through the ages. Muriel loves telling tales about nature and how important it is for us to care for our world. This program will meet State Science Standards. A Question of Character- stories with important values and lessons for our time. All cultures have used stories to teach “proper behavior and good values.” These stories teach important concepts such as being responsible, safely standing up to the bully, sharing, treating yourself and others with respect, helping to make a peaceful world, and accepting diversity.
Any of these may be adapted for intergenerational audiences and seniors. Some programs may include real life stories and first person historical stories.
