A passionate story-lover, Muriel Horowitz brings many years of classroom experience, storytelling and writing to her residencies, workshops and performances.

Muriel enchants listeners of all ages with her lively tellings filled with audience involvement. Her love of story is evident as her voice and movements tell about animals, people, and the natural world. She shares personal stories and tales from many cultures: tales of empowerment, wisdom, humor, and morality. She shares tales of her life and the lives of family and friends. Muriel especially loves inspiring others to tell their own tales. She has done innovative intergenerational programming bringing together young children and seniors.

Muriel has written and received grants for writing, storytelling and bringing creativity into the classroom and beyond. Recent grants include a Dutchess County Arts Council Grant to participate in several interfaith story concerts in underserved areas through the Dutchess County Interfaith Council, a grant to pursue an oral history project bringing middle and high school students together with Holocaust survivors, and a Mid-Hudson Teacher Center study group grant to work with a group of teachers to study teaching comprehension strategies to primary school students.

As a literacy specialist, she has worked with teachers and students in grades k-8 encouraging students to use their Imaginations and creative abilities. She recently participated the Hudson Valley Writing Project’s invitational summer seminar and is now a teacher consultant for that group. She presents early literacy workshops to pre-schools and other groups. She has attended local, regional and national storytelling and literacy conferences.

Muriel is a co-founder of the Interfaith Story Circle of the Dutchess County Interfaith Council. She has told stories from her Jewish heritage in many different settings and has facilitated workshops in Jewish storytelling and in modern midrash.
